My review of the VMA’s

Posted on 2013.08.26 at 12:36
I guess I’m still an 80’s kid after all! I love my music. I love my music “controversy”. And the Moon Man statue means something to me, as I used to watch MTV religiously (you know… back when they actually played videos!)

I’m also in a bit of a sassy Monday mood and feeling a bit like a TLo critic. So here, in no particular order, are a few things that really stood out for me in watching the VMA’s…

GaGa – She’s weird. She dresses funny. But the Gal Got Talent, one hella set of pipes, and puts on a great show! “Applause” is an awesome song, and I’m impressed as hell by her talent. Squirrelfriend was dangerously close to needing a hip replacement not all that long ago, and after surgery and rehab, she was all over the place – GOOD FOR HER! She was excellent, and I cannot wait for the next album!

Taylor Swift – OK, she is truly stunningly gorgeous and dresses in a classic style. But am I the only one in the house sick to death of her dating, breaking up, and then writing a song dissing her Ex?! Seriously?! Honey, there’s only one common factor in all these breakups – GET A CLUE! Maybe your next song should be, “OMG, maybe it’s me?”

Robin Thick – Coming out in that umpire outfit was… um… interesting. One of my co-workers said it best. “He looked like Beetlejuice!” Classic!

JT – OK, some critics have blasted him for not doing all that much singing. But ya know, I gotta admit, I’m in awe of his talent. He did some complicated choreography, perfectly. He kept the energy going, all over the place. He sings, he dances, he writes, he plays, he acts. And he’s cute. I kinda hate him now. I bet he can’t tan, though, so that’s one thing at least, right?! In all seriousness, applause Mr. Timberlake. Well done!

Kanye –I’m not a fan. And I don’t keep up with the Kardashians. Nuff said.

Rhianna – honey. I love ya. You’re gorgeous! But could you look any more bored and annoyed? Every time the camera landed on you, you looked like you needed a five-hour energy or a Prozac.

Katy Perry – Siiiiigh. OK, she had a rough divorce. OK, she is bouncing back. But what’s with people billing “Roar” as her “biggest hit yet” when it has just barely gotten off the ground? Sorry folks, it ain’t no Teenage Dream. It’s ok, but it is more growl than a roar.

Miley – Oh, where to even begin?!!!!!!! Slu-TAY-TAY! We’re not talking little-girl-grown-up. We’re talking little-girl-got-fake-id-to-begin-stripping-for-creepy-uncles. The performance was horrid. She missed the notes. And there are some things you just shouldn’t do with foam finger or teddy bears. Ew, ew, ew, ew, EW! To quote Mr. House, Worst Use of Bears EVAH!

Will Smith’s family – I love, love, love that the entire family was just as shocked and appalled by Miley’s performance as I was. The looks on their faces were priceless!

And to end on a high note… Macklamore and Lewis – I’m so happy and frankly STUNNED that “Same Love” has become so popular! The words to that song are so incredibly powerful. And to be written, produced, performed, etc., by a group of straight musicians is amazing. Applause, Applause!

I may be middle aged. But I still want my MTV. And they were right – you’ll never look at music the same way again.
